So 2019 has well and truly started now, we have been to Farnham Maltings Quilting Fair, which lived up to expectations, the customers were lovely, we sold more fabric for the backing of quilts than at any other time in the year and the doughnuts were delicious.
LOOKING AHEAD TO THE SPRING QUILT FESTIVAL
But now we must move on to the next show, which is the Spring Quilt Festival at Ardingly. This show again is about quilting, patchworking and textile art. It’s held at the South of England Showground, which holds events throughout the year for literally every hobby out there from Antiques to Volkswagen parts. Incredibly the show ground is on a 150 acre site, which should be just about big enough to show off all our fabrics. Ardingly itself is equal distance from Chichester and London, and the village is well renowned for being in The High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. So all in all a trip to the show would be a lovely day out. The show is at the end of this month so we have a few weeks to turn around the numerous fat quarter boxes, posh remnants and half metre pieces.
CATERING TO FLEECE'S POPULARITY!
One thing we have learnt from Farnham is that fleece is proving an incredibly popular backing fabric for quilts, so our lovely range of super soft polar fleece will be going to Ardingly. We stock single sided fleece which is ideal for quilting and play mats, using it means you don't have to use a wadding too. If you fancied making a play mat, which doubles up as a quilt the Animal Alphabet is just one example that works as a great quilt top; being a slightly heavier cotton means it can withstand the wear and tear of being played on over and over again.
Although this show is a quilting show, we are still taking some of our novelty soft furnishing prints including the now classic Hartley Hare, but also newer prints such as the Way Down Deep in the Middle of the Jungle and the ever popular Llama Love. We have made these into some really great cushions samples which would be an easy project, but still make a big impact on any sofa.
DISCOVER THE NEW QUILTING FABRIC RANGE
Excitingly for this show, we have had a chance to restock our fat quarter boxes with our newer range of quilting fabrics. These include some lovely blenders such as the Cogs range which comes in a variety of colours making them perfect for a quilting project. A real staff favourite however is Dashboard, which would make an incredibly cool addition to any quilt, and could work for boys' quilts which usually prove slightly difficult. Take a closer look at the Dashboard quilting fabric.
Aside from the new blenders and traditional quilting fabrics, we will also be taking all our new batik fabrics. These have sold really well at the past few shows, particularly Farnham and especially as fat quarters. But we will also be taking them by the metre, as the team here really like the newer indigo batiks in the more geometric patterns.
Now we have written the list of everything we are taking, we had better get on with getting it all ready…….don't forget to check out the freshly updated quilting fabric collection online.
