Looking to refresh your handmade wardrobe with the latest Autumn/Winter 2025 fashion trends? This season offers an abundance of wearable silhouettes, textures, prints, and colours that feel stylish yet timeless — perfect for the home dressmaker who wants to stay current without chasing fleeting fads.
At Fabrics Galore, we’ve decoded the AW25 fashion trends and translated them into accessible ideas for amateur dressmakers and sewing enthusiasts. Whether you’re planning a capsule wardrobe update or simply want inspiration for your next project, here’s everything you need to know.
The A/W 25 Colour Trends: Rich Neutrals, Autumn Pastels and Bold Brights
The Autumn/Winter 2025 colour palette builds on familiar shades from last year while introducing new pairings and playful accents.
Chocolate Browns Take Centre Stage
Brown remains the backbone of the season, evolving from the pale cappuccino tones of last year’s “Quiet Luxury” trend into deep, rich chocolate browns.
- Use lighter browns as layering pieces to complement darker neutrals.
- Try pairing dark brown with the season’s surprise partner: tomato red.
Shop the look:
Burgundy, Navy and Mustard Accents
Burgundy and deep reds continue their dominance, often styled alongside brown or navy. Mustard, too, is trending strongly this year and pairs beautifully with autumn neutrals.
Green Goes Soft and Fresh

Greens shift lighter this season, with pea green and mint emerging as surprisingly flattering tones for autumn dressing.
Autumn Pastels & Neon Pops

If all these colour trends seem very familiar from A/W 24, muted Autumn pastels are also trending particularly when paired with the dark autumn neutrals. Think soft powder pinks, pistachio green, powder blue and butter yellow as contrast layers to deeper autumn hues.
Meanwhile, neon green and yellow inject a bold edge into seasonal wardrobes. Which works perfectly as we just took delivery of neon Liberty and neon accented jerseys.
AW25 Fabrics, Textures & Prints: From Leopard to Bouclé

This season celebrates playful textures, bold prints, and luxurious finishes — all perfect for the dressmaker’s project list.
Animal Print Everywhere
We are delighted to report that leopard is once again a standout trend, no longer limited to outerwear or accessories but found on dresses, skirt suits and more. In fact, animal print extends beyond safari motifs like leopard and zebra to include cow print too. You can double down on animal print with our combination leopard and zebra print.

Geometrics and Stripes Dominate

Florals take a back seat this autumn. Instead, expect to see bold stripes, geometrics, and abstract prints.
Tartan and Punk Revival

Tartan is making a welcome return under the “Punk Revisited” trend, referencing Vivienne Westwood, a favourite FG design icon. Pair red tartan with black leather for an edgy yet classic nod to the punk vibe. Expect tartans, checks and plaids on shirts, skirts and casual bomber jackets.

Luxe Textures: Bouclé, Faux Fur & Velvet
Faux fur returns in a more playful guise while bouclé remains a go-to for its warmth and texture. For a cosy option, use our exceptionally fluffy furnishing bouclé in mink brown and forest green or our coating bouclé in red or moss green.
One trend we can really get on board with is brown leather (real or faux) and luckily, we have the very shade of chocolate in our faux leather – perfect for trousers and skirts.

Many upmarket brands featured velvet in their collections, from trouser suits to evening wear - always a luxurious look in the winter months. For those feeling adventurous, we have a cotton velveteen in the latest trending tomato red.

When we look at the Gothic romance and Victoriana trend, we saw a lot of embroidered fabrics, and you could nail two trends in one with Fabrics Galore’s embroidered cotton checks.

Key AW25 Themes and Garment Ideas
Autumn/Winter 2025 fashion is about wearable interpretations of high-fashion trends. Here’s how to sew the look:
Undone Elegance & Corporate Core
The Quiet Luxury trend has quietly been replaced by a looser, more undone elegance.
- Looser silhouettes and slouchy wide-leg trousers replace structured minimalism.
- “Corporate Core” continues with tailored trousers, pencil or knee length skirts, and sharp jackets with cinched waists and defined shoulders.
Pencil skirts are great for the office and casual wear when teamed with oversized knitwear. The Sew Over it ultimate pencil skirt pattern has a flattering high waist, a concealed zip, and a kick pleat at the back for easier walking! Sew Over It recommends heavy weight woven fabrics, medium weight wools, tartans and stretch cotton.
Try:
Punk Revisited
Channel Vivienne Westwood with red tartans and black leather or opt for short kilts with buckle details.
Modern Preppy
Another theme we are embracing at Fabrics Galore is the Modern Preppy trend. Think corduroy trousers, striped shirts, blazers, and polos — a smart-casual uniform that’s both timeless and trend-led.
Barrel leg trousers have evolved from purely being a jeans style to be a more tailored trouser style. The TATB Winnie is perfect for easy barrel leg trousers, and we love the Helen’s Closet Falconer Pants pattern as you get 2 trouser styles in one pattern, both the barrel leg and a wide leg option. Reviews mention the excellent quality and clear instructions. Recommended fabrics include medium to heavy weight woven with no stretch like denim, cotton twill, canvas or corduroy.
Try:
Gothic Romance & Victoriana
Romantic ruffled blouses with voluminous sleeves are a key feature this season, always look divine and can dress up casual jeans or look super smart with the abovementioned velvet trousers and pencil skirts. We love the Vikisews Mallory Blouse as it has beautiful flounces on both the neckline and cuffs. It’s incredibly romantic and looks great in a lightweight viscose, satin or silk alternative.
Outerwear: Bombers, Capes & Drapes
Oversized Bomber jackets in leather and suede have been trending for a few years now and we love the relaxed feel of the Juliana Martejevs Audrey bomber, which you can make in any woven fabric without stretch. While it looks fabulous in the red corduroy we would love to see it in our faux suede.
Cape and drape inspired coats and jackets are perfect winter staples and would look fabulous in any of our wool fabrics. This Simplicity Draped Scarf Coat and jacket pattern is perfect for this look.
- Cape and draped coats are must-haves.
Accessories: Oversized Bags
Soft, slouchy oversized bags complete the look for AW25. We recommend the McCalls M8375 with 4 different bag style options. And if you can’t face wearing a leopard print garment, how about a leopard print slouchy bag?
