Hessian fabric , or burlap in the US, is a woven fabric usually made from skin of the jute plant or sisal fibres. It's a coarse natural fabric often used in sacking. Please note - there will be irregularities in this cloth which are a natural feature and not a fault.
Our washed hessian fabric is slightly less coarse than the Basic Hessian with a more even weave. Often referred to as Jute as it is made from the Jute plant it is a natural fibre, usually un-dyed.
Hessian fabric is densely woven and has historically been produced as a coarse fabric. It was used originally as soldier's uniforms in Germany and also to make clothing for farming communities in the US during the Great Depression. Nowadays it is often used in a refined state known as jute as an eco-friendly material for bags, rugs and other products.
