We don't know about you but we are already pretty excited about the Platinum Jubilee weekend in June, and in honour of Her Majesty the Queen celebrating 70 years on the throne we have teamed up with Gathered's Sewing, Crafting and Patchwork magazines to bring you 20 projects to celebrate the Jubilee in style. Even better, we have the best Jubilee Fabric Collection to plan your very own Platinum Jubilee Party, so do read on for party inspiration....
Essential Platinum Jubilee Party Makes
In our minds a party simply isn’t a party without a few key things - a party table cloth, bunting and a cake. Now we can’t help you on the cake side, but we can make sure you have a pretty damn good table cloth, some extra special bunting, along with a few other ideas to really make your Platinum Jubilee Weekend one to remember.
Make a Jubilee Tablecloth
As the parties we have coming up are gonna have a slight Jubilee Theme it’s a chance to go full on red, white and blue, but you still want something you can use over and over again so you want to make something quite classic. In terms of classic summer table cloths, we are thinking it comes down to Gingham, a Red Ticking Stripe and maybe a cheeky spot print in there too. All of these are a soft furnishing Cotton Panama Fabric so they will lay beautifully and can easily be washed over and over again. Oh, just think of summers to come with the sun shining, a lovely lunch in the garden made even more picturesque by a pretty red gingham table cloth.
Furnishing Cotton Gingham Picnic Red
The other great thing about whipping up a tablecloth is it's so simple, all you need is scissors, an iron and some pins; our only advice would be to iron a double hem and then whizz around it on your sewing machine.
Make Jubilee Bunting
Now a party really isn’t a party without Bunting, and there are so many options for crafting some pretty, party-ready bunting. Again the Jubilee means it’s all about red, white and blue. BUT that doesn’t mean you can’t mix in some fabric from your stash but also some pretty florals too so that you can crack it out for many parties to come. At Fabrics Galore we love a pattern clash and were thinking that the best bunting is a real mixture of stripes, spots, florals and plains. Making bunting is also a really good way of clearing up any odd bits of cotton in your stash as well as an excuse for pretty prints you simply can’t think of what to make with but you love them all the same. Some of our favourite floral options are our Autumn Flowers in Navy which would look pretty mixed in with some plain red and white flags too.

Summer Party Bunting Fabric
As this is going to be an opportunity for a summer party, which means a great opportunity to use this cute Strawberry Cotton, maybe teamed with some red stripes and other florals for the perfect summer party bunting.
Navy Printed Cotton Strawberry Picking
Bunting can be made of any cotton, but light weight ones such as poplin or lawn are easy to make, however if you are thinking of leaving it outside for the summer you might want to use more of our furnishing cottons as they will weather better against our marvellous climate.
Make Jubilee Party Bags
Call us young at heart, but you know what our favourite part of a party was as children? Yes, the party bag and we really want to start bringing them back as it is the perfect place to pop any left over cake for the way home. They don’t have to be difficult to make or even made with anything special but they really create a lovely memory of the day. We were thinking of making some pretty little bags from one of our gorgeous Jubilee fabrics and then tie them up with a Jubilee appropriate coloured ric-rac in pretty red, white and blue.

Make a Jubilee Crown
As it is a Jubilee Party, why not bring the Royal feeling of the weekend and fun by making some crowns for your guests. They are super simple and are an excellent excuse to use some trims like our Pom Pom, and the combination of one of our darker denims with a bright red Pom Pom would make a crown fit for a King or Queen.
Think this is a good idea but you aren’t sure where to start? Don’t panic we have a free pattern for you from our friends at Gathered.
Essential Information for Planning Your Jubilee Party
- The weekend runs from Thursday 2nd June to Sunday 5th June, yes 4 whole days of fun.
- You can find out more on the official Platinum Jubilee website and download the Royal Emblem.
- Street parties are legal but apply to your local council at least 6 weeks in advance (not necessary for private parties of course).
- Thinking about the environment, use mismatched crockery rather than disposable plates and cups - it will not only be more sustainable but also look pretty on that gingham table cloth!
