You may not have noticed but we at Fabrics Galore love a good print, and in our licensed fabric collection we have a lot of our favourite characters. These mainly children’s fabrics can be used for so many different things, starting with a patchwork quilt and are super cute when teamed with any number of our other prints like ginghams or little spots. But have you thought about using them for children’s clothing, as many of them are craft cottons? They are the perfect combination of soft and hardwearing enough for children’s wear.
Now you know what you can use them for, shall we show you the licensed fabric characters we have in the collection…
Miffy Fabric
Now Big Boss Paul is a big fan of Miffy and so whenever we come across a Miffy Print it is a must have for Fabrics Galore. Now Miffy was first drawn in 1955 and is now pretty much a global icon, known for her positivity and simple design. The illustrator Dick Bruna wrote 30 books featuring Miffy and when he turned 80, he started referring to himself as “The Grandfather of Miffy” until he died in 2016 at the age of 89.
Although we have just said you can use these fabrics for clothing, we still think a pretty simple floor mat in this Miffy print teamed with a simple navy spot backing or border is a great addition to any children’s play box…
Peter Rabbit Fabric
There is nothing more classic that Peter Rabbit and all the adventures he has with his friends. Our Peter Rabbit prints are regularly in our bestseller lists, the illustrations are just so super cute. A fun fact about Peter Rabbit is that he first appeared in a letter Beatrix Potter wrote to her friend’s son who was poorly. It featured all the other rabbits we know so well today like Cottontail and Flopsy and was the basis for the original book.
We were thinking that the Baby Seashore Bloomers by Oliver and S available on The Foldline would look really cute in any Peter Rabbit print. And actually, what a lovely Christmas present they could make….
Peppa Pig Fabric
Now we can’t talk about popular children’s characters and not mention Peppa Pig as she is rarely out of the news, she is so popular. And our Peppa Pig print is also wide width at 140cm, meaning it is perfect for both dressmaking and crafting. But also, what small person wouldn’t love a set of Peppa Pig pillowcases, then they can go to sleep looking at her.
Alice in Wonderland Fabric
Now we must mention Alice in Wonderland, she is a real favourite at Fabrics Galore with both children and adults. Our furnishing weight Alice in Wonderland can be used for everything, from curtains and cushions to tote bags and lamp shades.
As you may have seen at one of the shows we have attended recently, we used it to make a great little skirt. Although the pattern we used is no longer available, the Nina Lee Camden Skirt is the perfect alternative……
Alice in Wonderland was originally written in 1862 and is based around an afternoon Carroll spent with his colleague’s three young daughters, including an Alice and the rest as they say is history.
Winnie The Pooh Fabric
Did you know that it is already 95 years since the first Winnie the Pooh story was published? That hasn’t dimmed the appeal of this timeless story, and don’t you think the character who puts a smile on everyone’s face is Tigger? And what child doesn’t love Tigger bouncing around their bedroom. This 100% cotton Tigger print is just perfect for children's wear or for bedding.
Jungle Book Fabric
Just in case you were thinking we were missing something, we do also have a great selection of jungle prints perfect for creating a Jungle Book vibe, whether it be for super cute clothing or a patchwork and quilting project. A Walk with Bagheera is made from cotton poplin which is perfect for many pieces of clothing.
Such as this sweet Peasant Dress by Elmeno Patterns (available on the Foldline), so simple but equally really sweet and any jungle cloth would make this traditional dress look quite contemporary.
Frida and Wonder Woman Fabric
And finally, although Frida Kahlo is far from a fictional character, we couldn’t go without mentioning how great our All About the Brow cotton poplin would look as pyjama bottoms for anyone but especially for children and what a great way of introducing this fascinating lady to them.
This also had us thinking about another female superhero and how about a simple pair of superhero pyjama bottoms featuring Wonder Woman herself, (again, it is the season and what a great gift idea for Christmas).
