We don’t know whether it’s the sunshine finally making an appearance, or the fact we can’t go on holiday at the moment, but here at Fabrics Galore, we are absolutely in love with our rather large collection of jungle and tropical prints which span across our dressmaking, quilting and furnishing departments. Some of them are really quite sophisticated, whilst others are just really fun and playful, which makes them perfect for all the family.
We aren’t sure we have mentioned it but we have recently redesigned our website, so if you fancy looking at all of your options we now have extensive tropical and jungle fabric collections in each of our furnishing, quilting and dressmaking departments. Below we have put together some of our recommended ways to use these fabrics so grab a piña colada and embrace the jungle theme.
Jungle fabrics are great for kids
If you are looking to revamp your child’s bedroom, the jungle and tropical fabrics we have available are the perfect fit and we have a wide range for you to choose from. Just a few designs we think we need to mention the ‘Our Way Down Deep in the Middle of the Jungle’ fabric or our ‘Jungle Fun’ cotton panamas, which would both be perfect for everything from cushions, blind or even a super fun play mat or picnic blanket - it is completely up to you. Don’t forget to pop a little pom-pom trim on to complete the fun look.
Before we carry on, we’ve also got to mention this gorgeous ‘Two by Two’ tiger dressmaking cotton fabric, which is particularly eye-catching. This animal print is just lovely, so we definitely wouldn’t judge a grown-up for using it in their next dressmaking project.
Our tropical fabrics are brilliant for adults too
Now, we aren’t keen on letting the kids have all the fun, so you will be pleased to know that we have some great jungle animal and tropical fabrics which are slightly more grown up. We think they are perfect for home furnishing projects, for example our ‘Prowling Leopard’ fabric is metallic, and its horizontal pattern means it would work especially well for a blind.
However, if palm trees are more what you had in mind, we can certainly help with that. Palm trees have been a growing trend for a while now and are a great way of bringing the outside in, which is only going to become more and more important over the next few years. If you were thinking about creating some cushions for your home’s interior, why not mix a few different patterns to really get the bohemian vibe?
Do you want tropical vibes in your wardrobe?
Our tropical and jungle fabrics are also perfect for a variety of dressmaking projects. If you want to add some tropical vibes into your wardrobe rather than your home, we have some great viscose prints for just that. Viscose is a semi-synthetic fabric which is partly made from wood pulp and is used as a substitute to silk so it has a great amount of drape. Viscose feels light and cool in warmer weather so this makes it a great dressmaking cloth for things like dresses, skirts and tops for the summer.
However, if you are new to sewing, viscose can seem like a slightly daunting material to use. Why not just stick to using tropical and jungle cotton fabrics? Similar to viscose, cotton has very good cooling properties so is just as good in the warmer weather, plus most importantly, the prints and designs are just as wonderful.
These cottons can also be used for face masks, as well patchwork and quilting, but here at Fabrics Galore we are inspired by the idea of some super chic pyjamas perhaps?
