Are you trying to find some of the very best dressmaking fabric to buy? Welcome toFabrics Galore. Managed and owned by Paul Johnston for the past 25 years, we are a dedicated fabrics business that has become a fun and inspirational environment. He has built up an excellent reputation with various suppliers, which we then pass on to you, including Liberty of London,Alexander Henry and other designer fabric brands. To understand the many fabric ranges we have available, please feel free to contact a member of our staff.

As abusiness, we really have worked hard to bring you a diverse range of luxurious dressmaking fabric to choose from. Every fabric comes in two standard widths, 115cm and around 140cm, and the narrower width tends to be fabrics such as quilting cotton which can also be used for dressmaking. If you are unsure of what size to purchase, make sure you read the sewing patterns and garment measurements - or just have a chat with Paul or a member of the Fabrics Galore team who will provide you with their professional opinion.

With so many different dressmaking fabrics to choose from, it can be a difficult decision trying to decide which fabric to use - especially because the choice of fabric is the most important step in sewing a garment. It is important to take into consideration the style, fit, design, silhouette and structure you want to achieve with your design.

For example, cotton is a very popular choice of dressmaking fabric as it is relatively cheap and can be used for a multitude of different textile projects. From lightweight cotton lawns to heavier cotton panamas - we have a number of different styles of cotton for you to choose from. These include brushed cotton fabric, which is a great medium-weight choice which has surface fibres that are brushed on one side giving a soft feel. On the other hand, cotton jersey fabrics are a light-weight stretchy material, suitable for tops and t-shirts - as well as a warm base layer for the winter months.
