WHERE THE HALLOWEEN CELEBRATIONS STARTED
Halloween has often been seen as an American celebration but each year the popularity of the day grows in the UK. Seen no longer as a day of trick or treating, adults are joining in on the ghoulish celebrations as well. So where did this celebration come from?
It originated with the ancient Celtic Pagans of the British Isles and their celebration of Samhain – the feast of the New Year, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III elected 1st November as a time to honour all saints; which quickly came to be known as “All Saints Day”. In doing so he incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain.
The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick or treating, carving pumpkin lanterns, dressing up in costumes and general festivities.

OUR MUST HAVE HALLOWEEN FABRICS
First up is a design which could be ideal to celebrate Halloween and the Mexican festival of Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead). The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died and help support their spiritual journey. The fabric depicts skulls in a lovely vibrant bright cotton print.
Next up, if you want a darker, scarier vibe, we have this stunning Alexander Henry print with dark devil-like dragons.
If you are a parent of young children, who hasn't created a witch's outfit, orange pumpkin or skeleton for the big night? Here are our personal favourites for children's Halloween costumes.
