Summer is almost here, along with the lifting of more restrictions - making this such an exciting time. I’m sure all of us have been planning our outfits for social occasions since this time last year. However, now the date is nearly upon us and we are that bit closer to actually being able to go out, everyone seems to be wondering, ‘What on Earth will I wear?!’. Thanks to the Fabrics Galore team, there is no need to worry, as we will be able to help you. So you can get prepared and make some cute outfits for the easing of restrictions in a couple of months, we have put together some of our favourite fabric ideas for new dressmaking projects.
Jeans and a nice top
Now, after many months of wearing loungewear we will want to be wearing something which is much smarter and prettier. Jeans and a nice top have always been a go-to outfit choice when going out; this certainly hasn’t changed and we all know that you can’t go wrong with this classic combination. Most likely, our first trip out will be to the local pub, so let’s keep it simple. A ‘nice top’ can essentially be anything you like, but if the high street is anything to go by, here at Fabrics Galore, we believe this is the perfect opportunity to incorporate some bright colours and puffed sleeves in your wardrobe.
Across the Fabrics Galore website, we have gorgeous range of dressmaking materials you can use to design your nice tops. From lightweight cotton with embroidered dots which can add a touch of prettiness to your outfit, or upgrade a more classic pattern like gingham which is always a spring/summer staple with a bold colour like sunshine yellow – undoubtedly the feel good shade of this summer.
When talking about spring/summer fashion it feels like we are constantly talking about pretty summer dresses, but they really are the best inclusion in your wardrobe for the warmer season. If you were thinking of making more of an entrance back into society, June 21st will be the perfect time to wear pretty dresses, and nothing says a summer dress like a crisp cotton. Summer cotton dresses look great for so many different occasions, such as picnics, or we dare say, for a party?
As it has been so long, maybe now is the time to splash out on Liberty fabrics to make a gorgeous print party dress? Or maybe you are looking for something drapey and flowing? If that is the case, at Fabrics Galore we have a variety of viscose fabrics, which are perfect for flattering wrap dresses.
Why not make some linen trousers?
If summer dresses are not your thing, that is more than fine, as there are so many other great outfit choices you can make, and we have you covered. You cannot go wrong in the summer months with a pair of linen trousers and they have the added bonus of being super comfy - which is ideal - just in case this isn’t the last of the many lockdowns. No matter whether you are dressing up for a girls’ night at a bar, or you are aiming for a more casual look for the local pub - linen has the capability to compliment any and every occasion.
Have you ever thought about wearing dungarees?
Linen trousers may not be your thing either, and luckily for you, dungarees and jumpsuits are hugely in fashion this spring/summer season. They are a great casual outfit choice and are a classic garment that will live on in your wardrobe forever.
In our store, we have a variety of materials which can be used to sew a fab pair of dungarees such as classic brushed panamas in navy blue, to the more fun and bright shades, such as a bright zesty orange. A bright pair of dungarees will carry you through the next couple of months even if the weather turns sore, as they are perfect for picnics but will also prevent those legs from getting chilly throughout the temperamental summer months.
