Pattern clash dresses
Spring is coming, the days are getting longer, and the sun’s warmth is increasing day by day, so at Fabrics Galore we feel that it is now perfectly acceptable for us to officially start planning our spring/summer wardrobe!
Here at Fabrics Galore headquarters we have been looking forward to the upcoming trends, to discover which dressmaking fabrics can help you create the ultimate spring/summer wardrobe.
So, in our latest blog post, we talk through some of the trends that are going to take the sewing industry by storm over the next few months.

Dressmaking trends for spring/summer 2019

The team here at Fabrics Galore have singled out a few dressmaking trends that are guaranteed to help your Spring sewing project both fashionable and glorious!

Denim fabrics

To be honest, denim is always in fashion, but for the spring and summer we are looking at some lighter colours. Marks and Spencer have highlighted a lot of mid-colour denims in their latest Holly Willoughby must-haves that are bound to be popular as the weather warms up.
Luckily, here at Fabrics Galore we have recently been stocking up on washed denim fabrics! This collection is not only on-trend, but also because it’s 100% cotton it is super easy to sew with, making it an ideal fabric for beginner sewers as well as those with more experience.

Pattern clashing

Another trend coming up for the spring/summer period is pattern clashing, the process of combining prints of similar tones all within one outfit. Liberty prints are perfect for pattern clashing because not only does each Liberty dressmaking fabric have a variety of colours in every print, but they are also digitally printed giving each fabric great depth and detail.
To be super on-trend, why not combine a pretty Liberty print with a classic chambray stripe when creating a simple top? Or for the more daring, a summer dress?
Liberty is printed on a tana lawn, which is the lightest and best type of cotton for dressmaking, making their fabrics ideal for sewing beautiful tops and blouses. Although the cotton chambray is slightly heavier, they are still ideal for dress making and are easy to care for.

Liberty sweatshirting

If you like the look of our Liberty fabrics range but are still feeling the cold, we have the perfect thing for you...Liberty sweatshirting. This fantastic fabric combines the amazing colours and detailed prints of Liberty with a cosy brushed back or loop backed sweatshirting.
These sweatshirting fabrics are also perfect for any sweater making project because they could make even the simplest pattern look amazing, whilst also keeping that chill at bay.

Lace and trimmings

As the summer approaches, lace and trimmings are becoming a bigger trend. The lace that we offer at Fabrics Galore is perfect for this technique because of its lovely scalloped edge, that means you don’t need to buy another trim. Although, it can also be added to another fabric dress making project to make it more on-trend quite easily.

Neutrals and beige

Neutrals and beige fabrics is a different big trend for dressmaking in 2019. Sometimes it can be difficult to find a neutral colour that complements your skin tone, so don’t forget you can order samples by using our simple request a swatch service.
Our Ponte de Roma collection comes in a wide range of neutral tones which could be used to make a wide range of dress making projects like skirts or t-shirts, and as these fabrics are slightly heavier, they are less overwhelming for new sewers.

Washed linens and linen chambray

Our washed linens and linen chambray make lovely classic summer dresses, but have you thought of using them for some bold suits instead?
Tailored separates were seen at a range of recent shows including Escada, Gucci and Roksanda, and these suits were showcased in a wide range of bright colours, particularly in warmer tones such as pinks and orange. One fabric that would make an incredible slouchy trouser suit, which would be perfect for those warmer days at work, is our Italian linen in coral.
